Good Morning! Here’s the Monday Morning Blog!
Happy Labor Day!
Did you know that Labor Day was originally designed to honor workers as a part of the American organized labor movement? Hope everyone enjoys the day off (if you don’t have to work).
September is Back to School Month
Are you ready for it? It is that time again!
School is or will be in session for teens and young adults. I remember being excited to be back to school. Seeing my friends, checking out my new schedule, and being back in the routine. I know that not all of my classmates were of the same opinion as me though.
We want to help teens young adults become involved in school. It will not only give them a sense of belonging, it will also help them engage in what is happening at school. If your teen isn’t a fan, check in with them and see what would make them more excited to be at school and see if you can make the experience more enjoyable for them.
This month’s blog topics for back to school will be
9/12 – Teen Challenge – Bus Safety
9/19 – Inspirational People – Librarian/Media Center Specialist
9/26 – Teen Resource – Eye Health and its affect on the mental health of teens

Changing things up a bit
While I was doing my content planning for the rest of this year, I came up with some new content ideas I wanted to try. So, I decided now would be a good time to change things up a bit.
Staring this month, we are changing the first Monday of the month from Book of the Month to Selma’s Monthly News. This will give me an opportunity to share what is going on with me and the blog on a monthly basis. I will be still sharing the books I am reading in the What Ya Reading Wednesday posts on social media.
Like in the section above, I am introducing the blog topics for the month in this post. Not only to set the direction for the month, but to also let you know so if a topic piques your interest, you know when to check back and read about it.
I also want to keep you up to date with what is happening with me. But, if you want to hear the news before it hits the blog, but sure to sign up for my email list.
You can subscribe to the list by filling out your email, first name and last name in the subscribe boxes on the top of this page.
My Monthly News
Here is the monthly news for September 2022!
Deep Valley Book Festival
Getting ready for the in person book festival on October 1st in Mankato, Minnesota. This will be my second time participating in this festival live.
I will be there to meet with followers and copies of the books will be available for purchase and for me to sign. Not able to attend in person? You can purchase the books online through the festival website, or you can send me a message and we can work out how you can get copies (even signed by me).
Not only does this festival give me a chance to meet my followers, it also helps me to connect with other Minnesota authors and learn about their books. Here is a link to their website for more information about the festival.
Writing Updates
I continue working on edits for The Street’s Way to get it ready for publishing next year. Some of the characters from Shawn’s Way like Paul, Adam and Josh will be continuing their story line into book three, readers will get the opportunity to meet a couple of new characters too. Shawn Townson will continue his story into book three, so we can find how he is doing after being the target of someone who bullies.
Do you wonder about why Josh became one who bullies? Stay tuned to find out more about his story.
Guest Blogger
Starting next week, I will be hosting a guest blogger. Her name is Sharon McAleer and she will be writing the Teen Challenge and Teen Resource blog posts going forward. She is the visionary behind Mentoring A Dream, an up and coming a teen and young adult mentoring resource for the adults in their lives. I can’t wait to see what information she has to share with us for the blog.
Today is the last day for FREE books!
Do you know about The Way Series? It is a series of coming of age novels for teens and young adults about the challenges they face. The Hard Way is about peer pressure and Shawn’s Way focuses on bullying. Today is the last day to pick up e-book copies of each of these books for FREE. Not only a great read for back to school but also a way to start a conversation with that teen in your life about the challenges they may be facing.
