Selma’s Monthly News – March 2023

Good Morning! Here’s the Monday Morning Blog!

Have you had a chance to touch base with your teen? How about checking in with them to see who their favorite actor or actress is? It could lead to a great conversation about a movie that you could go and see together. Or ask them if they need help with anything. It will show that you are interested and want to engage with them.

March is Women History Month

Women’s History Month is an annual declared month that highlights the contributions of women to events in history and contemporary society.

Our featured author this month is Maya Angelou. She is a world-famous author and activist. Her writing has an autobiographical style giving us a more personal look into her life as a Black woman. I am currently reading “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings”, the first book in a seven-book series, which is an autobiography of Angelou’s early years.

The Way Series has a few female characters. One of the characters in the second book, Shawn’s Way, is Jasmine Marvin, who Paul Jones meets through his best friend, Adam Stone. They are introduced at Paul’s first Teens Helping Teens (THT) meeting. We will learn more about her in a couple of social media posts this month.

Writing Updates

My writing journey is not only about the series. It is also about sharing my story and how I came to make my passion come into a a series of books and a platform that helps parents engage with their teens and young adults through Mentoring A Dream.

Here is the current news from the writing side.

Selma’s backstory

With the evolution of the brand, I have been archiving some of my past blog posts. This month on Instagram, I am featuring the story of how a girl with a dream created The Way Series and the Selma P. Verde brand. Be sure to check out the Wednesday posts on Instagram this month.

The Way Series storyline continues…

In 2023, I have two main projects that I am working on.

Completing and publishing – Josh’s Story – Spring 2023
Completing and publishing – The Street’s Way – November 2023

Josh’s Story

Josh’s Story is about how Josh Alberts becomes one who bullies. The manuscript is coming together as I am getting it ready for my editor in April. I look forward to sharing his story with you soon.

The Street’s Way

The other big writing project on the docket is getting The Street’s Way ready for editing later this year! Be ready for the continuing story of all of The Way Series characters in The Street’s Way, coming your way in late 2023!

Have you started reading The Way Series yet?

Looking for a couple of good teen coming-of-age reads focusing on teen challenges? Check out The Way Series.

Book #1The Hard Way – is the story of Paul Jones and his starting his freshman year of high school and how he must navigate dealing with pressure from his peers to do things to fit in.

Book #2Shawn’s Way – is a continuation of Paul’s journey from The Hard Way but now we meet a new freshman, Shawn Townson, who is forced to navigate being the target of a bully. An upperclassman at his school is taking out his frustration on Shawn.

Book #3The Street’s Way, is a continuation of The Way Series and introduces Mikala to the storyline as a runaway and homeless teen. To be released in late 2023!
