Good Morning! Here’s the Monday Morning Blog?
Did you get a chance to touch base with that teen or young adult in your life last week? I found myself helping with physics homework and getting our young adults up for school was in my week. We also watched some football together yesterday.
October is National Bullying Prevention Month.
According to Pacer’s National Bullying Prevention Center, 1 in 5 students are targets of a bully. It is a staggering statistic to think about. This month, we will talk about bullying and its effects on teens who are targets and the ones who bully. Like it says above, together, we can create a world without bullying. This should be our goal.
The book I chose to review this month is one I recently published. Shawn’s Way is a story about a teen who bullies and his target.
Selmaโs Book Review
Book Title
Shawn’s Way
Author
Selma P. Verde
Type of Book
Teen/Young Adult Fiction, Coming of Age
Author Background
Selma P. Verde wanted to publish a novel since she was a preteen. She became a published author in 2017 with her first book, The Hard Way. Shawn’s Way is book two of The Way Series, which is a series of books about teen challenges.
Summary of the book
This coming-of-age novel is the story of Shawn Townson. He is the brother of an All-Star baseball player who has a jealous teammate. His teammate, Josh Alberts, was replaced on the varsity baseball team and was unable to get back on dues to a prank he pulled at another school’s homecoming game. He believed that he was replaced on the team by Shawn’s brother, Caleb. To get back at Caleb, Josh decided to make Shawn the target of his anger.
Reaction to the book
This book is a continuation of the story from the first book, The Hard Way. Reading that first, may give the reader a little more character and story development. Shawn’s Way gives the reader a relatable story about bullying in high school and how one teen is able to navigate being a target. If you are looking for a read that focuses on one of the challenges teens face in high school, this book would be a good one. I would recommend this book for teen and young adult readers.

The Way Series is a good choice
Both books in The Way Series focus on high school and the challenges teens can face. The Hard Way focuses on peer pressure and Shawn’s Way focuses on bullying. Looking for a couple of reads for your teens? Check these two options out on the books tab of my website, Selma P. Verde – Books
